GATS’ “Against the Grain” at Spoke NYC.

Opening on Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 at Spoke Art Gallery’s New York City location is artist GATS’ solo exhibition, “Against the Grain.”
GATS’ (Graffiti Against The System) imagery seeks to dispel any barrier or prejudice, utilizing a masked figure taking various forms. The iconic image, placed normally in large scale graffiti work around the world and re-conceptualized here, in “Against the Grain,” onto found objects such as driftwood or skateboard decks is a commentary on the “construct of property,” GATS explains, “as on a micro level I’m thinking about the chain link fence standing between me and the wall I need to paint. On a macro level I’m thinking about the conceptual borders between nations preventing us from collaborating as citizens of the world.”
“Against the Grain” will be on view until June 25th, 2017.
